Human Trafficking
Monday, March 15 2010, 7:00am

The focus of this evening is Human Trafficking, which is modern-day slavery.  Modern-day slavery involves people across all gender, ethnic, and economic levels.  Some think trafficking is only happening across the oceans but it is also happening in the U.S. and even in our own county.  International Institute of Buffalo recently released a report showing that over the past two years they have assisted 88 victims of trafficking, primarily from Chautauqua, Erie, and Niagara counties.  It is happening here.  This event will let people know how they can protect themselves and those about whom they care from this scourge.

The two guest speakers are very knowledgeable about human trafficking.   They will both be talking about sexual trafficking, one area of human trafficking.  Theresa Flores, who was trafficked at the age of 15, will be telling her story and Lisa Thompson, who is with the Salvation Army in Washington D.C., will be sharing timely and relevant topics about the sex trafficking going on in this country as well as in other parts of the world.

There is no cost for the evening and all are welcome to attend.

Location : JCC, Hultquist Library
